Easy Camp Tacos
A friend of ours just showed us this easy camp tacos recipe recently, and Oh My Goodness. I couldn’t believe how easy it is. When you’re at camp or on a day hike, simplicity is so valuable. I was so excited by this I had to share a video on Mama Bear’s Backpack YouTube channel.
There is no additional seasoning in this recipe because the flavour of chips provides the spices for the meal. Anyone with food sensitivities can select their flavours and toppings according to their needs. Most nachos are gluten-free, and some may be dairy-free but please read the labels every time you buy a product.
Have fun with this. The teenagers on the trip will love these easy camp tacos and they will be requesting these for every trip.
Easy to prepare.
If you are the type to prep ahead of time, then all you have to do is pre-cook the ground beef and chop the toppings. When you get to camp all you have to do is reheat the beef and assemble your tacos. If you’re preparing on-site, then it’s still as easy to make these camp tacos as chopping your toppings and browning the beef.
The first step depends on how much cleanup you’re willing to do and how many people you are serving. For super-easy cleanup, buy individual-sized bags of your favourite nacho chips, in each person’s preferred flavour. Some like them cheesy, some like them spicy, and some may prefer a plain corn tortilla. But again notice here, there is no spicing required because all of the seasonings come from the chips. If you’re more concerned about waste and don’t mind washing dishes this can be made from a family-sized bag and served on a plate or bowl.
- Prepare your toppings of choice- peppers, onions, cilantro, cheese, tomato, salsa and even sour cream, guacamole, or refried beans.
- Brown your ground beef over a campfire or stove, or simply reheat it if you’ve done the browning ahead of time.
- Crush the chips in the bag. Slice the bag open down the side, or open normally.
- Spoon the ground beef into the broken chips. Close the bag and shake, or simply stir them together.
- Add your toppings of choice, and enjoy your easy camp tacos.

Simple Clean up
Clean up is just a few forks and your cooking pot. If camp dishes are a pain for you, I’ve shared my simplified method in this post and video.
The resulting waste is a few chip bags and zipper bags from the chopped veggies. The time involved on the campsite is maybe 20 minutes, plus 20 minutes of chopping time at home. These ingredients fit well into a cooler and having a fun and colourful, quick meal is a treat that allows you to relax at camp. But isn’t that what camping is about? Getting outdoors and finding some downtime.
